Nancy A. Carter

Peace, I'm Nancy A. Carter, formerly known as Goblin. I'm a photographer born and raised in the Bronx. My story began with poetry; I used this as an outlet to shape the emotions I didn't yet know how to express. Eventually, my poetry turned into images in my head, and one day, I was gifted a camera from my brother. In my early work, I created numerous photo essays —visual stories that captured the feelings I held within. Photography became more than a passion; it became a tool for healing. Through the lens, I explored my identity, processed the pain of being bullied at a young age, and carved out space to rediscover who I was. Every frame became a reflection of my growth. I've had the opportunity to freelance and collaborate with incredible brands and people, using my camera to amplify emotion, detail, and truth.

I'm passionate about what I do because storytelling has always been my way of making sense of the world. Creating visuals helped me heal, but it also helped me connect with myself, with others, and with moments that might have otherwise been forgotten. Photography kept me going.

I have been storytelling and creating art for over ten years now. I received my first camera around 2014-2015. It was around the time I worked at Urban Outfitters and would ask my friends to let me test shoot them. At this point, I didn't know how the camera worked.

My favorite part about photography is the sense of connection it brings. I was blessed enough to meet a beautiful group of like-minded photographers who wanted to have fun and tell stories. Photography helped me become more extraverted, it freed me from my shell of the Bronx and helped me meet so many people from different walks of life.

I've curated with @VictoriaMonet, @Nike, and @SheaMoisture. I would love to curate with @RenellMedrano, @Sampha, and @KidCudi 📸
